Benson & Hedges Dual (Regular) Cigarette Review

The Audio Version of this post is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzD-AW7mEZ8&feature=plcp

This is the world of tobacco, welcome! So this is our first review, now when I was deciding on our first cigarette to review on the channel, I wanted something different, something that screamed "I'm unique" but somewhat traditional. So I came up with a British brand, that had cool sleek feel to it, so it had to be B&H, (Benson & Hedges) which at one point in time carried the royal seal, being the royal families choice of cigarette. This brand screams everything I want it too, but one problem until October 2012, my "I'm unique" request was unfulfilled, however with the ever growing capsule/convertible cigarette market, B&H decided to throw there hat in the ring. They done that with B&H Dual. My plea was answered, sit back, relax and enjoy tobacco. (IF YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT)

Cigarette Design: 8.5/10 this cigarette is hugely interesting because it is an all white, or near enough cigarette. The cigarette has a normal kingsize filter as far as I can tell, however as I thought this was too good to be true I looked even closer than usual and guess what I found. I found a thicker band of paper around the bottom of the tobacco tube! Loosing tobacco and flavour during the last drags. However there is another flaw to this cigarette, the filter is perforated. However these are both minor problems because if you wish to have no perforations just cover them with your finger or a piece of tape. The cigarette is also very aesthetically pleasing, it's filter is light matte grey with a white tobacco tube. It also contains a small blue dot, directing the smoker where to pop the capsule and change the taste. Very simplistic has a B&H Dual logo on the thicker band of paper and press here underneath the blue dot. A very nice cigarette but the thicker band of paper loses the cigarette they 1.5 marks!

Unlit Aroma: 6.5/10 there's not a lot to smell, a very slight hint of Virginia tobacco but that's it, however of the tobacco I actually could smell there was a certain sweetness to it, pleasurable but not great.

Dry Drag: 6/10 slight amount resistance (keep in mind capsule is not burst meaning slightly more resistance) this cigarette is well packed, but again the absence of flavour annoyed me. Nice drag but not a great unlit flavour.

TNC: Tar-8mg  Nicotine-0.6mg  Carbonmonoxide-10mg

LET'S LIGHT UP!

First impressions: 6.5/10 even burn, so no tailings, however the flavour was very mild, even though the flavour that was breaking through was actually rather nice, best of all you can't taste the FSC, very mild throat hit and goes down easy. However I'm comparing to a full-flavour but even for a light, there just isn't enough flavour.

Harshness: 5.5/10 very smooth cigarette considering TNC rating, however at the start of the cigarette it was like smoking air. Some smokers like that, some don't. Personally I'm not too bothered. Honestly this rating should really be a 6 however the extra smooth start lowers it slightly, but not uncomfortable, goes down easy but not for a full flavour smoker.

Flavour: 7/10 firstly, we have got to remember this is a light, the fact there is not chemical taste is a win after FSC. Even though taste isn't the strongest of tastes it is still pleasurable, don't be mistaken though, Dual's flavours have more similarities to a B&H White than a B&H Gold. But a nice, sweet taste, with slight hint of toffee? Very enjoyable but they are a light flavour, they way I describe it is clean.

Burn: 5.5/10 not the best, not the worst. A completely average burn time, similar to a B&H silver or American Spirit Blue. Average but leaning to the faster side of things.

Buzz: 5.5/10 not much I can say on this other than check the TNC levels.

Last Drags: 7/10 no where near as bad as I thought, the flavour intensifies, burn gets slower and throat kick becomes a lot stronger, very nice indeed. The thicker paper band hasn't affect the cigarette in any way, WOW!

Consistency: 4/10 not a very consistent cigarette honestly, not a great first section, but then nice from then on, everything intensified just what this cigarette needed. However the burn is completely consistent, the taste is too except it intensifies.

After Smoke: 8/10 a very pleasant aftertaste reminding me of a B&H gold, strange. Nice cigarette but would need to smoke two to get my fix!

Cost: 10 pack: N/A   20 pack:£6.93 (30/10/2012)

Value for money: 7.5/10 even though there some flaws with this cigarette it is very enjoyable, under valued cigarettes. My ideal price would be between £7.30-£7.50 they have the potential  to be a luxury priced cigarette.

Overall (including cost): 7.5/10 a very pleasurable smoke. A high quality taste similar to B&H white, consultant burn, there isn't a lot of opportunities where I can say that about a medium priced cigarette. However they're not for everyone, this couldn't be an everyday smoke for me due to lack of nicotine, but still a nice treat. For someone who is looking for light cigarette with the opportunity of two flavoured cigarettes.

Overall (not including cost): 6.5/10 a fairly nice smoke as I mentioned before however there are much better out there, none the less, some smokers will love this cigarette but for me there's an overwhelming taste of mediocrity and plainness.

Would I recommend them?
Yes, to light smokers, those who want a change from their usual brand, one off tries and as a last cigarette of the day.

Will I be smoking them again?
Probably, because they are a very nice light with the capability of becoming a menthol, which is much nicer. A great cup of tea then bed cigarette. Mellows me out!
