Benson & Hedges Dual (Menthol) Cigarette Review

Cigarette Design: 8.5/10 this cigarette is hugely interesting because it is an all white, or near enough cigarette. The cigarette has a normal kingsize filter as far as I can tell, however as I thought this was too good to be true I looked even closer than usual and guess what I found. I found a thicker band of paper around the bottom of the tobacco tube! Loosing tobacco and flavour during the last drags. However there is another flaw to this cigarette, the filter is perforated. However these are both minor problems because if you wish to have no perforations just cover them with your finger or a piece of tape. The cigarette is also very aesthetically pleasing, it's filter is light matte grey with a white tobacco tube. It also contains a small blue dot, directing the smoker where to pop the capsule and change the taste. Very simplistic has a B&H Dual logo on the thicker band of paper and press here underneath the blue dot. A very nice cigarette but the thicker band of paper loses the cigarette they 1.5 marks!
Unlit Aroma: 6.5/10 there's not a lot to smell, a very slight hint of Virginia tobacco but that's it, however of the tobacco I actually could smell there was a certain sweetness to it, pleasurable but not great.
Dry Drag: 7.5/10 nice draw, not a huge amount of resistance, similar to a B&H Silver. For me the perfect drag, proving that when the menthol capsule has been popped there is less resistance when dragging on the cigarette.  As for flavour, there is a cool sensation at the back of my throat when dragging, however not like a menthol kick but a peppermint flavour. A lot sweeter than a menthol, reminding me of polo mints.
TNC: Tar-8mg  Nicotine-0.6mg  Carbonmonoxide-10mg
LET'S LIGHT UP!
First Impressions: 8.5/10 the quality of the flavour with the menthol capsule popped is fantastic, definitely not a lack of flavour, the weak but sweet tobacco provides a pleasant taste mixed with the cool sensation of peppermint and spearmint, provide a great initial flavour. Nice even burn, no tailings and mild throat hit.

Harshness: 6/10 somehow the cigarette with the capsule popped is slightly harsher that the un-popped cigarette, however still a relatively light cigarette, however as with all menthols/mint (usually capsule) cigarettes there is always a cool sensation at the back of your mouth and throat. With this cigarette there is not an overwhelming menthol hit, however a gentle mint massage of your mouth and throat.

Flavour: 8.5/10 this cigarette has a great flavour. The sweet tobaccos mixed with the smooth mint taste create a world leading taste. When exhaled through the nose you discover a whole new flavour, of sweet tobacco with a hint of mint, reminding me of Gawith Apricot Snuff, it has the sweet flavour and tobacco aroma that can make a tobacco user fall in love, obviously you can’t detect any hints of apricot, but I can detect slight hints of toffee however I exhale. The mint flavour is just that, mint. Instead of a cold menthol hit, this is much more pleasurable and easy to smoke. Reminding me of soft mints.
Burn: 5.5/10 not the best, not the worst. A completely average burn time, similar to a B&H silver or American Spirit Blue. Average but leaning to the faster side of things.
Buzz: 5.5/10 not much I can say on this other than check the TNC levels.
Last Drags: 9/10 a very sweet but minty taste, light to low full strength throat hit and a continuous average burn, very pleasurable.

Consistency: 8.5/10 a very consistent cigarette, the flavour even growing in intensity slightly, remains fairly consistent providing a high quality flavour. The burn NEVER changes, completely average. Consistent throat hit. Great cigarette all the way!
After Smoke: 8.5/10 a very nice aftertaste, reminds me of sucking on soft mint or chewing on a bit of chewing while smoking, that’s really all I can compare it with, the mint taste remains for a round 5-10 minutes, after that time the tobacco taste begins to seep through, however this is a quality sweet taste. No pain in my lungs or throat.
Cost: 10 pack: N/A   20 pack:£6.93 (30/10/2012)
Value for money: 9/10 a mid-priced cigarette however this cigarette is a luxury smoke, another factor that adds value to this cigarette is, the fact that you can choose between flavours, two in one. This accompanied by a great taste, throat hit and several other factors to the cigarette. I would happily pay £7.60 for a pack of 20.
Overall (including cost): 9.5/10 very pleasurable smoke, as I mentioned before, great sweet tobacco flavour with a mellow mint flavour, the burn is completely average, smooth throat hit, this cigarette ticks all the boxes for me. Even though they are NOT for a full flavour smoker.

Overall (not including cost): 7/10 even though they are a very nice smoke, there are much better available on the UK market. I do like these cigarettes, however they are not anywhere near some of the UK’s best cigarettes, however they are a great convertible cigarette and for some people.

Would I recommend them?
Yes, to light smokers, those who want a change from their usual brand, one off tries and as a last cigarette of the day.

Will I be smoking them again?
Probably, because they are a very nice light with the capability of becoming a menthol, which is much nicer. A great cup of tea then bed cigarette. Mellows me out!

Benson & Hedges Dual (Regular) Cigarette Review

The Audio Version of this post is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzD-AW7mEZ8&feature=plcp

This is the world of tobacco, welcome! So this is our first review, now when I was deciding on our first cigarette to review on the channel, I wanted something different, something that screamed "I'm unique" but somewhat traditional. So I came up with a British brand, that had cool sleek feel to it, so it had to be B&H, (Benson & Hedges) which at one point in time carried the royal seal, being the royal families choice of cigarette. This brand screams everything I want it too, but one problem until October 2012, my "I'm unique" request was unfulfilled, however with the ever growing capsule/convertible cigarette market, B&H decided to throw there hat in the ring. They done that with B&H Dual. My plea was answered, sit back, relax and enjoy tobacco. (IF YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE ADULT)

Dry Drag: 6/10 slight amount resistance (keep in mind capsule is not burst meaning slightly more resistance) this cigarette is well packed, but again the absence of flavour annoyed me. Nice drag but not a great unlit flavour.

TNC: Tar-8mg  Nicotine-0.6mg  Carbonmonoxide-10mg

LET'S LIGHT UP!

First impressions: 6.5/10 even burn, so no tailings, however the flavour was very mild, even though the flavour that was breaking through was actually rather nice, best of all you can't taste the FSC, very mild throat hit and goes down easy. However I'm comparing to a full-flavour but even for a light, there just isn't enough flavour.

Harshness: 5.5/10 very smooth cigarette considering TNC rating, however at the start of the cigarette it was like smoking air. Some smokers like that, some don't. Personally I'm not too bothered. Honestly this rating should really be a 6 however the extra smooth start lowers it slightly, but not uncomfortable, goes down easy but not for a full flavour smoker.

Flavour: 7/10 firstly, we have got to remember this is a light, the fact there is not chemical taste is a win after FSC. Even though taste isn't the strongest of tastes it is still pleasurable, don't be mistaken though, Dual's flavours have more similarities to a B&H White than a B&H Gold. But a nice, sweet taste, with slight hint of toffee? Very enjoyable but they are a light flavour, they way I describe it is clean.

Burn: 5.5/10 not the best, not the worst. A completely average burn time, similar to a B&H silver or American Spirit Blue. Average but leaning to the faster side of things.

Buzz: 5.5/10 not much I can say on this other than check the TNC levels.

Last Drags: 7/10 no where near as bad as I thought, the flavour intensifies, burn gets slower and throat kick becomes a lot stronger, very nice indeed. The thicker paper band hasn't affect the cigarette in any way, WOW!

Consistency: 4/10 not a very consistent cigarette honestly, not a great first section, but then nice from then on, everything intensified just what this cigarette needed. However the burn is completely consistent, the taste is too except it intensifies.

After Smoke: 8/10 a very pleasant aftertaste reminding me of a B&H gold, strange. Nice cigarette but would need to smoke two to get my fix!

Cost: 10 pack: N/A   20 pack:£6.93 (30/10/2012)

Value for money: 7.5/10 even though there some flaws with this cigarette it is very enjoyable, under valued cigarettes. My ideal price would be between £7.30-£7.50 they have the potential  to be a luxury priced cigarette.

Overall (including cost): 7.5/10 a very pleasurable smoke. A high quality taste similar to B&H white, consultant burn, there isn't a lot of opportunities where I can say that about a medium priced cigarette. However they're not for everyone, this couldn't be an everyday smoke for me due to lack of nicotine, but still a nice treat. For someone who is looking for light cigarette with the opportunity of two flavoured cigarettes.

Overall (not including cost): 6.5/10 a fairly nice smoke as I mentioned before however there are much better out there, none the less, some smokers will love this cigarette but for me there's an overwhelming taste of mediocrity and plainness.

This the world of tobacco, welcome!

Just to let everyone know there is a spoken word version of this post at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmGShAfyIHU&feature=plcp

Hello everyone and this is the world of tobacco, welcome! So this is our very first post, unfortunately my  co-presenter Marko could not contribute to this post, well she helped make the plan up but I am writing it.

So in this post we're going to talk about really basic stuff, including an introduction to the channel and presenters, inform you of the aims of the channel,  let you know about what's coming up, our networks and how our reviews will work, so sit back, relax and enjoy tobacco. (If you are a responsible adult)

So this is TWUK, you are reading this on our blog (even though I think you already know) we are a pro-tobacco organisation that will provide you with such services as; tobacco reviews, tobacco news, education in tobacco, tobacco challenges and community activities. (I'll explain later) The channel will post on a regular basis trying to cover as many tobacco products and brands as possible on a students budget! Me (Kieran) and Marko both have strong political beliefs, I am a left wing lunatic while Marko is a right wing snob. Together we provide a very strange mix, I feel that our debates on tobacco news are hilarious, because I am a professional athlete this just adds humour to the situation as my competitiveness can get in the way of fact, logic and our friendship! I launched the channel in January 2012, however after 7 months of neglects were back open for business! I will mention in the next paragraph I have some experience on tobacco channels, TWUK was a replacement for my old channel, however this time we've got two presenters, a mic and lots of time. I originally sought inspiration from YouTube smokers like GhostSmokes, AWSmoker and the man who has encouraged me to be the presenter I am today, Rjthesmoker a complete legend, fantastic videos and behind the great videos an even nicer guy! I originally planned to have no shout outs in this video however decided I wouldn't not neglect you of rjthesmoker's work, please if you have time check him out, I wouldn't be here today if I wasn't for rj so if your reading this cheers buddy, a true tobacco legend and genius.

TWUK has two presenters, Marko (the US right wing snob) and me Kieran. (the left wing lunatic) We will both participate in the running if TWUK. Marko is from the USA unfortunately I have forgot where, and I am from Scotland. Marko currently smokes 15 a day, only occasionally using other tobacco products, however again we are opposites I smoke one cigarette a week (remember I'm a pro-athlete) and use snuff, cigars, pipes and even hookah on occasion. Marko has had no previous experience of blogging or presenting, however me being totally opposite have been blogging since the age of eight, I have had about six months of experience on tobacco channels, SecretSmoker98 and PipeSmoker1, I have also presented a worldwide Internet radio show, with over 17,000 listeners daily. However this may sound like I'm trying to show off, please do not mistake the above paragraph for that, I am merely trying to emphasise the difference between Marko and myself.

TWUK has simple aims, which we call the NEE idea;
•NO HATE!!!!!
•Entertain
•Educate
sound simple however I can assure you these take can become rather complex. To prove that we do plan to stick to our NEE idea I will discuss videos that are upcoming on the channel. N-unfortunately we are unable to ensure that there will be no hate towards anyone on our channels, E- this is a slightly less complex aim, we hope to entertain you in several ways including, tobacco reviews, (explains itself) tobacco and community challenges, essentially this is mixing competitive nature with intelligence and popularity, unfortunately these type of posts/shows are months away and still in the development stage. E- education is in my opinion my strong suit, I love to inform people and eradicate ignorance, we plan to do that by releasing our once popular tobacco news, (again speaks for itself) and our mastering series (I will do post/shows educating about tobacco in a friendly and understandable way) there will also many changes as we go along, for example our next two videos will be videos introducing me and Marko in depth with stories and smoking history etc.

TWUK values networks greatly, they allow us to spread the same content around the globe in several different formats, TWUK currently has a YouTube channel and Facebook like page along with our blog which you have already discovered. (Links for all TWUK channels can be found at the bottom of every post or in the description of our videos. Please like us and subscribe to us, if you like our content and agree with it.

Sadly we are reaching the end of this post, however we plan to go out with more bureaucratic red tape nonsense, it's time to explain how our reviews work, essentially we using a rating system out of ten. I personally think this gives the viewer a better sense of what the product in question is like. For every tobacco product there will be different sub-headings however these are self explanatory and will provide you the viewer with an depth look at the product, all reviews and shows will be made in radio format on YouTube, the reason for this is it is an idea that is new among tobacco presenters and completely original and TWUK are followers.

We have reached the end of our very first post, on behalf of all the TWUK presenters thank you reading and learn love and live tobacco.
